A previously convicted felon has been charged with murder after allegedly killing a Texas father following a carjacking.

According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez and local news outlet KHOU, deputies responded to a carjacking on June 6 at a gas station on the corner of Tidwell Road and John Ralston Road in Houston. While deputies were conducting their investigation, the owner located the truck as it was equipped with a GPS tracker. The victim then contacted his father for help, as well as a 24-year-old family friend.

The victim's father and friend located the truck at another gas station on the corner of Airline Drive and the North Loop. The two confronted the suspect, and a crash ensued. The suspect and a woman fled the altercation on foot, and the pair chased them. At some point, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot both the father and the friend.

The father of five was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The family friend was also shot but survived.

After an investigation by CSI and Homicide detectives, police arrested 37-year-old London Hogan Sr. He was booked into the Harris County Jail on charges of murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

Local news outlet ABC 13 said that a judge denied bond at a hearing on June 8. His public defender maintained that Hogan did not steal the truck.
ABC 13 obtained more information on Hogan. Court records show that Hogan was sentenced to five years of probation in March 2024 after pleading guilty to choking his girlfriend. In January 2025, he was arrested again in Louisiana on drug possession charges, where he was alleged to have planned to smuggle them into a correctional facility. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail, but his probation was not revoked.

Family Members Say Victim Was a Devoted Husband

The deceased victim was identified as 56-year-old Louis Erebia. In a statement to KHOU, family members described Erebia as "a devoted husband of 22 years, a father of five, and a grandfather of three." He was remembered for his years of volunteer work with the North Shore Little League, service at The River church in Channelview, and supporting activities at the Galena Park Intermediate School District, where his wife works as a trustee.

The family said he was moving to protect the family friend when he was shot. They praised him for his bravery and sacrifice to protect his loved ones.

The sheriff's office also offered condolences to the family.

"As Father’s Day approaches, we are mindful that a family will be spending the holiday mourning the loss of a loved one," Gonzalez wrote on Facebook. "Our hearts are with Mr. Erebia’s family as they navigate this unimaginable loss."
