Influencer Nara Smith said her 2-year-old daughter, Whimsy Lou, was diagnosed with cancer late last year after doctors discovered a suspicious condition that led to emergency testing and immediate chemotherapy.

Smith is a model and social media influencer known for viral cooking videos featuring meals and snacks for her family made from scratch. She has built a large following on TikTok and Instagram through videos that often feature homemade recipes and high fashion.

In addition to creating content, Smith has launched several business ventures, including Nara's Roasted Garlic Oil with Algae Cooking Club, her debut cookbook Homemade, and a clothing collection in collaboration with Reformation.

Smith shared the news in an Instagram video posted July 1, saying she and her husband, model Lucky Blue Smith, first sought medical care after noticing something unusual on their daughter.

"When we saw something suspicious on her, we took her to the ER, and they didn't quite know what to make of it," Smith said in the video.

She said a visit to the family's pediatrician prompted an urgent referral to a children's hospital.

“I remember him going really quiet and calm. My heart dropped in that moment. I don’t know whether it was my gut telling me something or just a mom’s intuition, but the first thing that I felt was she has cancer,” she said.

"After a lot of X-rays, ultrasounds, and finally a biopsy, they immediately called us and said that she had cancer, told us it had spread, and that she needs to come and start chemo treatments immediately," Smith said.

Smith did not disclose the type of cancer her daughter has or share an update on her daughter’s current condition.

The July 1 video was the first time Smith publicly discussed her daughter's diagnosis. She said this is why she has posted less frequently on social media in recent months.

"Having found all of this out and navigating this while postpartum, also loving and caring for our other kids at home, also being in the hospital with Whimsy a lot and balancing work on top of that has been really challenging," she said.

Smith and Lucky Blue Smith have four children: Whimsy Lou, Rumble Honey, Slim Easy, and Fawnie Golden, who was born in September 2025. Lucky Blue Smith also has a daughter from a previous relationship.

Smith said connecting with other families facing pediatric cancer helped her cope during her daughter's treatment. She said she has connected with others in similar situations through social media, forums, and other families at the hospital.

"All of that combined really brought me a lot of comfort and alleviated the feeling of loneliness for me," she said. She also said she hopes sharing her family's experience encourages others to seek medical care if they notice anything concerning.

"Processing this and navigating all of this as a family has been really hard,” she said, adding that some days are really hard, but she tries to show up and do her best.

"I hope that by sharing this, I can bring someone a little bit of comfort and make you feel less alone in your journey in whatever way that may be,” she said.

Alongside the video, Smith thanked the medical professionals who cared for her daughter, writing, "thankful for each and every nurse and doctor along our journey who helped us get through and out the other end."
