Jennifer Finch, the bassist and co-founder of the influential punk rock band L7, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer, her bandmates announced on Monday.

Finch, described on her own website as "a cultural instigator, punk rock icon, and multi-disciplinary artist," is known not only for her decades of work with L7 but also for a career that has encompassed photography, writing, and performance. The diagnosis has upended plans for the band's upcoming tour and prompted an urgent public appeal for financial support.
Her bandmates said in a post on Instagram that Finch has already undergone multiple surgeries and experienced serious complications following her diagnosis. Her condition has progressed to the point where she now requires extensive medical care, rehabilitation, and professional in-home support.
A GoFundMe was launched on her behalf by friends, family, and her L7 bandmates. According to the campaign page, Finch's initial prognosis offered some hope—early indications suggested that a full course of radiation treatment could return her to something resembling normal daily life. However, unforeseen complications led to additional surgeries and a series of difficult setbacks that have left her with significant physical limitations.

"The level of care Jennifer needs has gone beyond what friends and family can safely provide around the clock," reads the fundraising page. "As we face the difficult reality that Jennifer may have more good days behind her than ahead, we are asking for help to make the time she has with her friends, family, and fans as comfortable, meaningful, and full of love as possible."

Funds raised will go toward professional in-home nursing care, physical and speech therapy, medical equipment, home-care expenses, out-of-pocket medical costs and legal fees, and the preservation of Finch's artistic legacy, including the completion of a creative project that had been scheduled for release next year. As of the time of publication, the campaign had raised more than $165,000 toward a $350,000 goal.

The diagnosis also affects L7's touring schedule. According to the band, Finch had been involved in planning what the group called "The Last Hurrah Tour" at a time when all four members were in good health. While she will not be able to participate in the upcoming U.S. dates, Finch has personally asked the remaining members to proceed with the tour as scheduled.

"We will honor her request while making her care and well-being our immediate priority," L7 wrote.

The band urged fans to both donate to the campaign and share it broadly. "Jennifer is part of our family," L7 said. "We love her, and we want her to feel the full strength of the community that has loved and supported her for so many years."
