Man survives headfirst leap from ledge

A 19-year-old Brazilian man apparently tried to take his own life by leaping off a ledge `12 feet above the pavement.

The man climbed out the first-story deck of a building in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, on Sunday, May 7, and apparently threatened to jump.

Police and firefighters tried for half an hour to get him to come back inside. Finally, he simply turned a leaped headfirst, plunging to the pavement below.

Though it was only a 12-foot fall, he could have crushed his skull or broken his neck.

Lucky for him, he did neither. The hospital reported that he was in stable condition.
