Michael Oren, former Israeli Ambassador to the U.S., discussed with NTD's Iris Tao the history of the alliance between the United States and Israel. Oren says the strategic alliance between the two nations has been the deepest and most multifaceted strategic alliance the United States has had with any foreign power in the post World War II period, more than the United Kingdom, France, or Italy.
Countering some of the propaganda about the U.S.-Israeli war in Iran, Oren says Israel is not dragging the U.S. or anyone into the war, but doing what it has to do to ensure its safety. Oren discussed Iran's building an arsenal of thousands and tens of thousands of ballistic missiles, each one of which carrying a warhead of about a ton of TNT, capable of knocking out an entire neighborhood. He described missiles falling on Israel every day, which was an intolerable situation for Israel.
Oren says Iran and its proxies are still firing rockets at Israel, and Iran and its proxies believe victory means simply not losing, despite devastating losses of its military assets, headquarters, and leaders. Oren says the Iranian president is dictating terms of surrender to the United States, to include an unconditional cease-fire, payment of reparations to Iran, and commitment from the U.S. to never attack Iran again.
The Cold War, Oren says, should be the model for the war in Iran, with no boots on the ground and continued pressure on Iran.
