Bloomberg reports that roughly 100 million people in China are falling behind on their debt payments. That's around one in ten adults.

Their debts include credit card balances, mortgages, and other types of loans. The problem has grown sharply in the years since the pandemic, according to Gavekal Dragonomics, a Hong Kong-based research firm. The firm analyzed data from 26 banks, along with other sources.

Official numbers from Chinese authorities are scant as Chinese regulators stopped publishing overall figures on defaulted personal loans.
