With Christmas right around the corner, the deadlines for sending holiday mail and packages are fast approaching.

Major shipping carriers are gearing up for the holiday surge by increasing their seasonal workforce and implementing other delivery enhancements to ensure gifts are delivered in time for the celebrations.

In October, the U.S. Postal Service shared plans to hire 14,000 seasonal employees to handle the extra holiday volume, noting that the company had deployed more than 20,000 new delivery vehicles so far this year.

"The Postal Service plans throughout the year to deliver the nation’s mail and packages during the high-volume holiday season and we are well prepared and ready to deliver for the American public," David Steiner, the Postal Service's Postmaster General and CEO,<a href="https://about.usps.com/newsroom/national-releases/2025/1022-usps-ready-to-deliver-for-2025-holiday-season.htm"> said</a> at the time.

"For the past several years, the Postal Service has been gaining market share in our package business, which reflects the strong value and excellent portfolio of the shipping options we provide. We expect to see a continuation of this trend in the coming holiday period and to continue winning a larger share of the nation’s shipping business."

Ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, UPS announced it would be rolling out radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology—which uses radio waves to identify and track packages and other objects wirelessly—to its more than 5,000 shipping locations nationwide, providing shippers with "enhanced visibility from drop-off to delivery."

"With these innovations, 490,000 world-class UPSers and our unstoppable seasonal workers ... we're on our way to leading the industry in on-time delivery again this holiday season," the company<a href="https://about.ups.com/us/en/our-stories/people-led/ups-delivers-holiday-shipping-with-flexibility--visibility-and-e.html"> shared</a>.
<h2>US Postal Service Holiday Shipping Deadlines</h2>
The Postal Service has already<a href="https://about.usps.com/holidaynews/?utm_source=direct-vanity-url&utm_medium=vanityurl&utm_term=Direct%20vanity%20URL&utm_campaign=Holiday%20news%20vanity%20URL"> accepted</a> more than two billion packages and pieces of mail this holiday season. The parcel delivery carrier has shared ship-by dates for all holiday items intended to be delivered before Christmas Day in the Contiguous United States. Those dates are:

 	<li aria-level="1">First-Class Mail Service: Dec. 17</li>
 	<li aria-level="1">Priority Mail Service: Dec. 18</li>

</ul>
Recommended shipping deadlines for Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories are largely the same, except mail and packages sent via the Ground Advantage service should go out by Dec. 16. Those interested in granting Christmas wishlists for children across the country through the Postal Service's<a href="https://www.uspsoperationsanta.com/"> Operation Santa</a> program should ship out gifts by Dec. 13 to ensure on-time delivery for the holidays.
<h2>FedEx Holiday Shipping Deadlines</h2>
FedEx's SameDay service has a shipping deadline of Dec. 24. The company offers a variety of other shipping options, including FedEx Home Delivery, which can be used to send items to someone’s private residence, and FedEx Ground, which is best for shipping to businesses. The ship-by dates for these services to ensure delivery by Christmas Eve are:
