Popular sites like X, ChatGPT, or Spotify went down this morning. A major outage at Cloudflare, one of the internet's key infrastructure providers, made dozens of popular websites and services unavailable on Monday.

The disruption started around 6:00 AM ET, when users worldwide started getting "Internal Server Error" messages and HTTP 500 errors when trying to visit different sites. Cloudflare said that it is investigating the issue, posting on its System Status page: “Cloudflare is experiencing an internal service degradation. Some services may be intermittently impacted. We are focused on restoring service. We will update as we are able to remediate. More updates to follow shortly.”

Cloudflare is a U.S. company that provides content delivery network services, cybersecurity, DDoS mitigation, and wide area network services.

Social media platform X, Spotify, and ChatGPT were among several websites down for thousands of users. Facebook, AWS (Amazon Web Services), bet365, Canva, BrightHR, and the multiplayer game League of Legends also suffered outages, according to Downdetector.com.

Down Detector–the site that monitors outages–was also hit by technical problems.

Cloudflare is investigating the full scope of what happened, and more details are expected in the coming days. It also mentions that scheduled maintenance is currently in progress in one of its data centres, though it has not confirmed whether this activity is connected to the outage.
