President Donald Trump said Thursday he should have a role in choosing Iran’s next supreme leader.

Iran launched more missiles at Israel and U.S. bases as the war in the Middle East entered its sixth day. Israel announced multiple incoming attacks early Thursday and said it was intercepting the missiles.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it began new strikes against the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorist group in Lebanon. The Israeli army warned residents of Bourj el-Barajneh, Haret Hreik, and other Beirut neighborhoods dominated by the terrorist group to leave their homes immediately ahead of imminent attacks.

<h2>Trump: Want to Finish Iran, Then Cuba Only a 'Question of Time'</h2>
Trump said on Thursday he wants to finish the war in Iran first, but then it "will be just a question of time before you and a lot of unbelievable people are going to be going back to Cuba."

Trump, speaking at an event with the Inter Miami soccer team at the White House, said Cuba wants "to make a deal so badly."

"We want to finish this one first," he said, referring to the conflict in Iran.
<h2>CENTCOM: Iran’s Ballistic Missile Attacks Are Down 90 Percent, US Sinks Over 30 Iranian Ships</h2>
Ballistic missile attacks from Iran’s Islamic regime have decreased by 90 percent since Operation Epic Fury began six days ago.

Adm. Brad Cooper made that announcement to members of the press on March 5 at U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. He also reported that drone attacks have decreased by 83 percent, and more than 30 of Iran’s naval vessels have been destroyed.
<h2>Dignified Transfer for 6 US Soldiers Killed in Iran Drone Strike Scheduled for March 7</h2>
Rep. Zach Nunn (R-Iowa) said on March 5 that the dignified transfer for six U.S. soldiers killed in an Iranian drone strike in Kuwait last weekend will take place at Dover Air Force Base on March 7.

The ritual honors U.S. service members who die in the theater of operation.

“This Saturday, I will attend the dignified transfer at Dover Air Force Base to honor the brave Americans who were killed in action and stand with their families during this solemn moment,” Nunn said on X.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told a press briefing on March 4 that Trump also intends to attend the dignified transfer.

The Army Reserve members, assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command based in Des Moines, Iowa, were killed March 1 in the Iranian attack on Port Shuaiba, Kuwait, amid U.S.-Israel military operations against Iran.

Two of the soldiers—Maj. Jeffrey R. O'Brien, 45, of Indianola, and Sgt. Declan Coady, 20, of Des Moines—are from Iowa.

The other four were identified as Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert M. Marzan, 54, of Sacramento, California; Capt. Cody Khork, 35, of Winter Haven, Florida; Sgt. 1st Class Nicole Amor, 39, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; and Sgt. 1st Class Noah Tietjens, 42, of Bellevue, Nebraska.
<h2>IDF Launches New ‘Broad-Scale’ Wave of Strikes on Tehran</h2>
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a Telegram post on March 5 that it had begun carrying out a new “broad-scale wave of strikes” against Iran’s capital, Tehran.

The IDF said the strikes targeted infrastructure belonging to the Iranian regime but did not provide details.

Prior to the announcement, the IDF said it targeted the headquarters of a special unit of the Iranian regime in Alborz province that oversaw Iran’s internal security forces.

The Israeli military also struck facilities used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a central command center for Iran’s internal security forces, as well as “dozens of command centers and weapons sites.”
<h2>US Military Conducts Strike on Iranian Drone Carrier</h2>
U.S. armed forces struck an Iranian drone carrier on March 5, setting the vessel on fire as military operations against Iran intensified, according to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

CENTCOM, which oversees military operations in the Middle East, said the drone carrier is “roughly the size of a WWII aircraft carrier.” It did not disclose the specific location of the strike.

“U.S. forces aren’t holding back on the mission to sink the entire Iranian Navy,” the military said in a post on X.

CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said on March 5 that more than 30 Iranian Navy ships have been sunk so far.

“We’re not just hitting what they have, we’re destroying their ability to rebuild,” he said.

<h2>House Rejects Iran War Powers Resolution</h2>
The House rejected an effort on Thursday to stop President Donald Trump's air war on Iran and require that any hostilities against Iran be authorized by Congress.

It's the second vote in as many days after the Senate defeated a similar measure along party lines.

The House also approved a separate measure affirming that Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism.

<h2>US Closes Its Embassy in Kuwait</h2>
The United States has suspended operations at its embassy in Kuwait City, the State Department said in a statement on Thursday.

It’s the second diplomatic mission to fully suspend operations since the start of the war with Iran.

“While there have been no reported injuries to U.S. personnel, the safety of Americans abroad remains the highest priority of the U.S. Department of State,” it said in a statement about the status of the embassy in Kuwait City.

Shortly before the announcement, the department said that Secretary of State Marco Rubio had called the Kuwaiti foreign minister to express condolences for the deaths of at least two Kuwaiti troops in Iranian retaliatory strikes.

Although numerous U.S. embassies and consulates in the Middle East have closed to the public since the war began, only the consulate in Karachi, Pakistan, has suspended operations.
<h2>Trump Says He Must Be Involved in Selecting Iran’s New Leader</h2>
President Donald Trump said Thursday he believes he should play a role in selecting Iran’s next leader, rejecting the idea that Mojtaba Khamenei could succeed his father, the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

“They are wasting their time. Khamenei’s son is a lightweight. I have to be involved in the appointment, like with Delcy in Venezuela,” Trump told Axios in an interview, referring to Delcy Rodríguez, who took power after the United States captured Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro.

Trump added that he would not accept a successor who continues the policies of Iran’s former supreme leader.

“Khamenei’s son is unacceptable to me. We want someone that will bring harmony and peace to Iran,” Trump said, adding that a leader who follows in the footsteps of the late supreme leader could push the United States back into war "in five years."
<h2>Israel Strikes Northern Lebanon for First Time in the Conflict</h2>
Israel carried out a strike in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli on Thursday, marking the first time the area has been targeted during the six-day conflict, according to the Israeli military.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the attack killed a Hamas commander involved in overseeing training activities in Lebanon.
<h2>Airlines Restore Some Limited Flights</h2>
As some airspace reopened, Emirates Airlines said Thursday that it was restoring a limited schedule of flights in and out of Dubai. The carrier said it would continue to update its operations as it monitored developments. It urged customers not to go to the airport unless their flights were confirmed.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Ben-Gurion Airport continued a phased reopening. Tel Aviv-based El Al said that it started “proactively assigning” customers who are currently abroad to recovery flights back to Israel, but noted that its outbound flights were still not operating as of Thursday.
<h2>European Nations Deploy Naval Assets After Iran Drone Attacks</h2>
Spain, Italy, and France are deploying naval assets to Cyprus and the eastern Mediterranean to bolster security after Iranian drone attacks in the region.

The moves follow a March 2 drone strike on the British RAF Akrotiri base on the Mediterranean island.

Spain’s Defense Ministry said on March 5 it will send its most advanced frigate, Cristóbal Colón, to join a European naval group that includes the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and Greek navy ships. The vessels are expected to reach the coast of Crete by March 10.

Italy is also preparing to send naval vessels. Defense Minister Guido Crosetto told parliament on March 5 that the deployment would take place in the coming days as part of a broader European response.
<h2>Israel Warns People to Leave Beirut's Southern Suburbs</h2>
Israel warned residents to leave Beirut's southern suburbs, including Hezbollah-controlled areas, on Thursday, prompting an exodus from a swathe of the capital known as Dahiyeh.

Suggesting a major escalation looms in Israel's offensive against the Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist group, an Israeli military spokesperson told residents of the southern suburbs to move east and north, posting a map showing four large districts of the capital he said they must leave.

Lebanon was pulled into the war in the Middle East on Monday, when Hezbollah opened fire, sparking Israeli airstrikes focused on Beirut's southern suburbs and on southern and eastern Lebanon.

"Save your lives, evacuate your homes immediately," the military spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, posted on X, saying that any movement southwards may endanger their lives.

Roads out of the suburbs were clogged as people fled by car and on foot, television footage showed. The sound of warning shots could be heard in the southern suburbs, exhorting residents to leave.
<h2>Qatar Says It Was Attacked by a Salvo of Iranian Missiles, Drones</h2>
The Gulf nation’s defense ministry said 14 ballistic missiles and four drones were fired at the country.

It said air defenses intercepted all the drones and 13 of the missiles, while the 14th fell in the sea off Qatar.
