Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives could be thrown out at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The university's board of trustees voted Monday to spend $2.3 million earmarked for DEI programs on campus safety instead.

The move comes on the heels of a flag-related incident that went viral on social media. Anti-Israel protesters took down an American flag on the UNC campus and flew a Palestinian flag in its place.

However, a group of fraternity brothers returned the U.S. flag to its pole as the demonstrators yelled and threw objects at them.

UNC's budget committee vice-chair Marty Kotis says DEI, in many people’s minds, is more aptly described as "divisiveness, exclusion, and indoctrination." Kotis called for more unity, dialogue, and diversity of thought.

Cherise Trump, the executive director of Speech First, an organization that advocates for free speech on college campuses, joined NTD to weigh in on this topic.
