Trump Calls Iran's Response to Latest US Ceasefire Proposal 'Totally Unacceptable'

Closing arguments were made in former President Donald Trump's civil fraud trial in New York on Thursday.

NTD spoke to Hans von Spakovsky, a senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation, to find out more about the merits of the case.

"The whole problem with this case is, there were no, and have been no victims," said Mr. von Spakovsky. "All of the companies that lent money to Donald Trump and the Trump Organization, their loans were repaid, and they made profits on them, and none of them have complained. None of the underwriters have said that there was any kind of issue—that shows, I think, that this really is a political persecution."

"I think this is a travesty of justice—and whatever you may think about Donald Trump, whether you like him or not, this is not the way that the American legal system is supposed to work," he said.

Mr. von Spakovsky also criticized the legal system in New York that made the case possible.

"In any kind of fraud case, you're supposed to show that someone was injured. Under this very bizarre law in New York, you don't have to show any injury by anyone," said Mr. von Spakovsky. "And really, this law is designed to give the state the ability to confiscate the wealth of successful individuals. And that's apparently what's going on here because, like I said, no one suffered any financial injuries."
