President Donald Trump on Monday said that he had a "very good call" with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz that showed they were on "a similar wavelength."

Trump disclosed details of their call amid ongoing clashes between federal law enforcement and protesters, marking the first sign of a possible consensus over Trump's immigration and crime crackdown in the state.

"I told Governor Walz that I would have Tom Homan call him, and that what we are looking for are any and all Criminals that they have in their possession," the president <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115962378381121858">wrote in a Truth Social post.</a> "The Governor, very respectfully, understood that, and I will be speaking to him in the near future."

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, during a press briefing later Monda,y outlined the conditions that must be met in order for federal law enforcement to leave the state.

All currently-incarcerated criminal illegal aliens and those arrested by local and state law enforcement should be handed over to federal authorities, Leavitt said.  Local and state law enforcement must also assist federal agencies in apprehending and detaining illegal aliens wanted for crimes, the press secretary added.

"If Governor Walz and Mayor Frey implement these common-sense, cooperative measures ... Border Patrol will not be needed to support ICE on the ground in Minnesota. ICE and local law enforcement can peacefully work together, as they are effectively doing in so many other states and jurisdictions,” Leavitt told reporters.

The Minnesota governor reiterated that it was a <a href="https://x.com/GovTimWalz/status/2015853141661454605?s=20">“productive conversation”</a> that could possibly lead to a decreased presence of federal law enforcement.

“The President agreed to look into reducing the number of federal agents in Minnesota and to talk to DHS about ensuring the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is able to conduct an independent investigation, as would ordinarily be the case,” Walz <a href="https://x.com/GovTimWalz/status/2015885640911479149">wrote on X.</a>

But in a separate <a href="https://www.wsj.com/opinion/tim-walz-the-un-american-assault-on-minnesota-67730de4?st=DdfPtG">opinion piece for the Wall Street Journal</a>, Walz alleged that Trump’s staff “doesn’t have their facts straight” about his state.

Contrary to the administration’s claims, the Minnesota Department of Corrections said it honors all immigration detainers, <a href="https://x.com/GovTimWalz/status/2015853141661454605?s=20">Walz wrote</a>.

“The administration claims that Minnesota jails release ‘the worst of the worst,’ Walz wrote. “In reality, the Minnesota Department of Corrections honors all federal and local detainers by notifying Immigration and Customs Enforcement when a person committed to its custody isn’t a U.S. citizen. There is not a single documented case of the department’s releasing someone from state prison without offering to ensure a smooth transfer of custody.”

According to the president, Trump and Walz further discussed border czar Tom Homan's visit to the state to oversee the surge of federal law enforcement. The president said that the governor was “happy” that Homan would be deployed to the state.

“We have had such tremendous SUCCESS in Washington, D.C., Memphis, Tennessee, and New Orleans, Louisiana, and virtually every other place that we have “touched” and, even in Minnesota, Crime is way down, but both Governor Walz and I want to make it better!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
