The stakes are high following the seizure of an Iranian vessel that had traveled from China.

President Donald Trump responded Tuesday when asked about what was onboard the ship.

"We caught a ship yesterday that had some things on it, which wasn't very nice, a gift from China, perhaps, I don't know," he said. "But I was a little surprised because I have a very good relationship and I thought I had an understanding with President Xi."

His comments come just a day after Beijing said it was concerned over the U.S. seizure of the vessel following Trump's threat of an additional 50 percent tariff against any country supplying Iran with military weapons.
