President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he will award the nation’s highest civilian honor to former Housing Secretary Ben Carson.

Speaking at a White House reception marking Black History Month, Trump said the retired neurosurgeon will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom later this year.

Carson rose to prominence in 1987 for performing the first successful separation of twins conjoined at the back of the head.

Carson made an unsuccessful bid for president in 2016 and later served in the Cabinet during the first Trump administration.

Trump has previously awarded the Medal of Freedom to Rush Limbaugh, Tiger Woods, and Charlie Kirk, among others.
