Walmart issued a nationwide <a href="https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2025/Walmart-Recalls-Ozark-Trail-64-oz-Water-Bottles-Due-to-Serious-Impact-and-Laceration-Hazards">recall</a> of about 850,000 Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles due to a safety hazard that has left two people permanently blinded.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall after receiving three reports of the bottle lids forcefully popping off when opened. "The hazard occurs when carbonated beverages, juice, milk, or other perishable liquids are stored in the bottle over time. Pressure buildup inside can cause the screw cap lid to shoot off suddenly, posing significant impact and injury risks," according to the CPSC.

According to the recall notice, three people have been injured. Two of those have suffered permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye by the bottle's screwcap lid shooting off.

The recalled product is the Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottle, sold only at Walmart stores nationwide and on Walmart.com since 2017 for about $15 each. The model number is 83-662 and appears on the product packaging, but not on the bottle itself. The bottle is silver with a black screw-on lid and features the Ozark Trail logo on its side. It measures 4.41 x 4.41 x 11.5 inches.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the bottle and return it to their nearest Walmart store for a full refund. Those with questions may contact Walmart’s customer service or visit the retailer’s website for more information about the recall process, according to the CPSC.

The product was imported by Olympia Tools International Inc., based in Covina, California, and Walmart Inc., headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas. The bottles were manufactured in China.

Consumers who experience any injury related to this product are encouraged to report it to the CPSC through their website at www.saferproducts.gov.

For a full refund, bring the affected bottle to any Walmart location or contact Walmart customer service directly. This recall is classified under Recall No. 25-377.

This Walmart recall marks nearly the fourth recall this past year related to drinkware products. In March, Trader Joe’s <a href="https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2025/Gerolsteiner-Sparkling-Water-Bottles-Recalled-Due-to-Laceration-Hazard-Manufactured-by-Gerolsteiner#:~:text=Trader%20Joe's%20stores%20in%20Alabama,for%20about%20$3%20per%20bottle.">recalled</a> over 61,000 bottles of Gerolsteiner Sparkling Water due to the risk of glass shattering and causing lacerations.

A month later, Target <a href="https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2025/Sakar-Recalls-Vivitar-Blender-Bottles-Due-to-Laceration-Hazard-Sold-Exclusively-at-Target#:~:text=Target%20stores%20nationwide%20and%20online,25%2D214">recalled</a> nearly 200,000 Vivitar blender bottles from shelves after discovering that the blades could spin even when the bottle was detached, posing a significant cutting hazard. And late December last year, Stanley <a href="https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2025/Stanley-Recalls-2-6-Million-Switchback-and-Trigger-Action-Travel-Mugs-Due-to-Burn-Hazard">recalled</a> 2.6 million Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs because defective lids could detach unexpectedly and spill hot liquids. There were at least 38 reported burn injuries globally related to that recalled product.
