Petty theft in New York City is on the rise. Recent data released by the New York City Police Department shows an exponential increase in petty larceny crimes between 2020 and 2022. Last year, for the first time, the number exceeded 100,000 cases.

NTD spoke with Francisco Marte, who owns three grocery stores in the Bronx. Mr. Marte was invited to attend the city’s press conference to speak about what he thinks should be done to combat the problem.
