Vice President Mike Pence visited the demilitarized border between North and South Korea on April 17.
It is a heavily mined, 2.5-mile-wide strip of land lined with barbed wire. There are soldiers guarding both sides.
Pence, whose father served in the Korean War, said the United States will stand by its “iron-clad alliance” with South Korea and its “era of strategic patience” with North Korea was over.
The vice president is on a four-nation Asia tour that shows the Trump administration’s commitment to the region.
