Sperry, Oklahoma Police Chief Justin Burch was driving home—fast.

He was caught on camera driving more than 25 mph over the posted limit on April 18.

The citizen who took the video filed a complaint, and in response, the chief wrote himself a speeding ticket.

“I decided to hold myself accountable, just as anybody else should,” he explained. “I wrote myself a citation.”

He admitted that if a citizen hadn’t filed a complaint, he wouldn’t have written the ticket.

Burch expects to pay more than $300 for speeding on April 18.

However, he earned himself the goodwill of his neighbors.
“I applaud him for writing himself a ticket,” said business owner John Brooks. “If I would have been caught doing it, I would have gotten a ticket.”

Several drivers have been hurt or killed in Sperry over the past few years.

Sperry resident Kristian Briggs said, “A lot of them go very fast through here, there are schools and it’s not a good thing.”
