Sri Lanka resumes rescue operations on April 17 after a landslide at a giant garbage dump trapped about 100 people. Police have now recovered 28 bodies.
The 300-foot-high mountain of garbage was engulfed in flames late Friday, April 14, on the nation’s New Year’s Day. It later collapsed and buried many homes. Police estimate that 145 houses were damaged. They are investigating if the landslide was natural or man-made.
