Set Designer for 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' Fatally Stabbed in Queens, Husband Found Dead Nearby

The deaths come about six years after another fatal tragedy involving Azzaretto's family.

A set designer who worked on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Goosebumps,” and several major film and television productions was found fatally stabbed inside her Queens home early Tuesday. Her husband was found dead hours later in a nearby park as New York City police continue investigating the deaths.

Mary Golding, 34, was identified by the New York Police Department (NYPD) after officers responded to a 911 call reporting an assault after midnight at about 12:24 a.m. Tuesday at her home on 41st Street in Astoria, within the 114th Precinct.

Officers found Golding with a stab wound to her back. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene. Police said no arrests have been made, and the homicide investigation remains ongoing, said the NYPD in a statement emailed to NTD on July 23.

About six hours later, at approximately 6:39 a.m., officers responded to a separate 911 call reporting an unconscious person near Astoria Park South and Shore Boulevard. Police found an unidentified man, believed to be between 30 and 35 years old, unconscious and unresponsive inside the park. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene. The NYPD said there did not appear to be any criminality connected to that death.

Multiple news organizations, citing law enforcement sources, identified the man as Golding's husband, Joseph Azzaretto, 33. Those reports also said the couple's 11-month-old son was found unharmed inside the family's apartment. However, the NYPD has not publicly confirmed those details.

People magazine, citing an NYPD source, reported investigators are examining the case as a "possible murder-suicide." Police have not officially classified the deaths as a murder-suicide.

Golding worked as a set decorator and art department professional on productions including “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Goosebumps,” “Hawkeye,” “The Flight Attendant,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “Marry Me,” “The Big Sick,” “Meet Cute,” and “Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer,” according to industry production credits. She had also been slated to work on the upcoming film “Deep Cuts,” according to Variety.

Golding attended New York University and graduated in 2015. She also attended Council Rock North High School in Pennsylvania.

The deaths come about six years after another fatal tragedy involving Azzaretto's family. In February 2020, Joseph Azzaretto's younger brother, Nicholas Azzaretto, was charged after authorities said he fatally shot their father, Frank Azzaretto, 58, during a domestic dispute at the family's Stroud Township, Pennsylvania, home after intervening in an argument between his parents. Frank Azzaretto worked in the art department on productions including “Daredevil” and “Unforgettable.” Nicholas later pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
