Shen Yun Performing Arts brought classical Chinese dance to Santa Barbara audiences on March 24.

Personal beauty consultant Jeannette Sackett attended the opening performance. She was moved by the courage depicted in the stories on stage.

“To continue to stand in the face of adversity with beauty and poise and grace, is the strength to run this race,” she said.

Dee Elias, the owner of a local jeep tour service, enjoyed the show as well. She said the colorful hand-made costumes drew her attention.

“My first thought is how relaxing and calming it is, to see such a beautiful performance. I’m so impressed with it. [The costumes] they just flow on the dancers–I’m thinking of the female dancers–the way they flow and and they twirl and the ribbons, and the colors are just–it matches the story, it matches what they’re trying to express. And the men’s costumes as well are very bold and vibrant,” she said.

Elias said she felt the music and dance swept her away to another realm.

“I felt like it transported me somewhere else away from day to day reality. It’s almost like meditation. It was so calming, that’s all I could think of,” she said. “It was so relaxing and I’m so glad I came.”

Shen Yun will be performing next in Thousand Oaks and Claremont in California.
