Shen Yun Performing Arts took the stage in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Spain, on Feb. 26, one of six shows in the town. Coming all the way from New York, Shen Yun is presenting “China before communism” on stage. In attendance was Sara Galindo Martínez, an entrepreneur who promotes fashion designers, culture, and art from her country of Mexico.

“I am moved by how impeccable they are,” she said. “I am moved by their perfection and how nothing is out of order. Everything is so measured, and that moves me because you can see that there is great discipline behind it. I highly recommend you to come.”

Shen Yun seeks to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture through breathtaking performances that showcase some of the world’s top classical Chinese dancers.

Accompanied by a live orchestra, the production features vibrant, elaborate costumes as well as a state-of-the-art animated digital backdrop that interacts with the performers on stage.

“I found it incredible to learn more about the heart of Chinese culture,” she said. “I thought it was very dynamic that the acts were so short, the colors, obviously the technology. When they jumped from the stage to the screen and back again, I thought it was the best. I thought the tenors and the baritone were great. I had the entire symphony orchestra right there in front of me, and it was impressive to watch them.”

Ms. Martínez was impressed by Shen Yun’s portrayal of the beauty and goodness of China before communism, including the universal values conveyed on stage.

“I thought about universality. You reap what you sow, always do good, take care of others, and all this as time passes, centuries pass, and it remains the same,” she said.

“In the end, values are something that never change and don’t vary from country to country, they are eternal.”

Ms. Martínez spoke about the importance of promoting and preserving culture.

“Every day it is less common to see people interested in the past and more in the immediacy, in the future. It is rare to return to one’s roots and be more connected to the human, historical, and ancestral side of countries. I think it is extremely valuable.”

“I would describe it as a show for curious people, for people who want to go further and be in contact with different cultures, to be able to value and appreciate what is different, to get out of the everyday routine,” she added. “It’s a great plan, really. It’s something that people have to see.”

Shen Yun will be performing in Valencia, Spain, on March 7–10.
