On April 25, Shen Yun Performing Arts brought 5,000 years of traditional Chinese heritage from before communism to a delighted audience at the Rosemont Theatre in Rosemont, Illinois. Singer and songwriter Jamecia Bennett says she was in awe of the company’s artistry.

“I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and I actually flew in today for the show, today, just for the show,” said Ms. Bennett. “To have that discipline of so many people on stage and everyone being precise and beautiful to tell a story was absolutely amazing.”

Ms. Bennett was deeply impressed with the soprano.

“The soprano was amazing, I was just in awe. But not only the soprano, the bass singer who was singing today. Just giving a different approach to music, how we would sing, normally would sing opera. And this to hear, also to read, I thank you guys for having the words up there so that we can hear the beauty and see the beauty as well, visually.”

Finding its roots in the Divine, ancient Chinese culture and values are reflected in Shen Yun’s performances through classical Chinese dance, music, and storytelling.

“We need to hear that there is a higher power that is with us if we are good to each other. It’s all about being good, understanding, and recognizing evil for what it is,” said Ms. Bennett.

She said that what Shen Yun presents is also important for the world today.

“I think this is a great show to have at this time right now. Just to see the amazing art and beauty and music, and what art and beauty and music can do for people’s lives, and change lives. Because coming in here, I was all stressed out just trying to get in here," she said.

"But when you get in here, it’s something about music and it’s something about dance and arts. That just kind of puts you in a different place and a different state of mind. It’s kind of like a stress-free type of thing. And then hearing and seeing the stories told and the revelations of them. It’s something that we want to implement in our everyday life.”

Ms. Bennett highly recommended seeing Shen Yun.
“If you have not seen the show, you need to get here to come and see Shen Yun. It does not matter whether you’re 5 years old or 80 years old. You need to get here. This is a show of beauty and love and commitment to ourselves to be better people.”
Shen Yun will be performing in Hollywood, California, on May 3 and 4.
