Shen Yun Performing Arts continued the Australia leg of its tour with performances at the Sydney Lyric Theater in Sydney from March 20 through March 28. Among the attendees were city councilors, who were amazed by the vibrancy of traditional Chinese culture on stage.

Councilor Tanya Raffoul from the City of Parramatta said she was in “absolute awe.” “What I’ve witnessed is so powerful. The messages transcend anything I thought I’d be able to hold on to. It has captured my attention by invoking each of my senses,” she said.

Councilor Wendy Lindsay from the City of Canterbury Bankstown said, “It’s pure perfection, and they make it look so easy. It’s amazing. Beautiful. Very, very beautiful show.”

Councilor Jennifer Walther from the City of Canterbury Bankstown said, “It was truly divine, really. It was amazing, and it’s a great story, and it captures China’s ancient, rich cultural heritage, so it’s wonderful.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive China’s 5,000-year-old culture, which is also said to be divinely inspired. Values such as loyalty, filial piety, and righteousness are important aspects of China’s ancient culture and play out in Shen Yun’s performances.

Ms. Raffoul said, “It is just incredible. It tells a very, very rich story about history, about Chinese culture, about struggle, but also about triumph.

“The message is very clear. The message that I’m getting from the incredible performances is one of peace, one of freedom over chaos, over oppression.”

Councilor Glenn Gardiner from Penrith City Council said, “I like the story in a few of the scenes, but the one about you reap what you sow, I thought that was very powerful. And the way it was performed and the way it was conducted was also entertaining.

“There’s modern truth in ancient wisdom, of course, and tonight showed that.”

Councilor Jess Diaz from Blacktown City Council said, “To me, it’s like a triumph of the human spirit. It’s like merging of the human and the divine. So very well portrayed in terms of whatever happened in the world today.”

Jane Grevtseva, a Hills Shire councilor, said, “Amazing acrobatic dancing performance. And very inspirational, very emotional, and I would really recommend [others] to attend and watch and learn.”

Ms. Lindsay added, “The language isn’t a barrier, let’s put it that way. You can come and see the show without obviously speaking any form of Chinese or any other dialect. I think from that perspective, anyone can come and see the show because you can see the story be performed without having any words.”

Shen Yun will be performing in Tokyo, Japan, from April 2 to April 9.
