Shen Yun Performing Arts gave performances at the Arcimboldi Theater in Milan, Italy, on Jan. 22  and Jan. 23. Audience members were impressed by the artistry and skill of the dancers

“The dancers are exceptional. I loved the men’s jumps, the grace of the girls, I love the way they throw their legs, these legs that never end in grand battements, as if they were hanging from the ceiling and are beautiful, they are wonderful. I also discovered that they are extremely expressive. I didn’t know, I didn’t see these Chinese dancers as being expressive, but this struck me,” said Maryse Tournier, a ballet school owner.

Aurora Cecchi, a figure skater and former dancer, said, “It was intense, very intense from beginning to end. Each piece was unique and special in its own way. I didn’t see two performances that were the same. Even if some movements were similar, the way they were performed varied greatly. I noticed the differences between each performance, and I truly enjoyed it. It was always unexpected, even the funnier parts, like the performance with the little monkey. I laughed and had a great time. I really liked it a lot.”

Ms. Tournier said, “They are very good, they are very good, passionate. Technically, I didn’t see a single mistake ... wonderful, they are very prepared, and they transmit a lot of energy. Beautiful and very graceful.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun has been touring the world since 2006, on a mission to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism. Shen Yun brings ancient Chinese values to life on stage through classical Chinese dance and music.

“It’s very beautiful, full of grace, very poetic, beautiful. I liked it very much, really very much,” said Martina Mistò, a doctor. “In my opinion, it transmits the message of seeking, of finding serenity, inner peace in a world that perhaps doesn’t help much to find it.”

“Overall, I was struck by the costumes, by these very bright colors that immediately stick in your mind. I’m sure that in the future I could be inspired by this beautiful Chinese orchestral music that I discovered tonight,” said Diana Cazac, a musician and music school owner. “In general, I think that combining symphonic music with dance is a great and beautiful thing because it conveys a special emotion. The sound of these violins, cellos, and specific Chinese instruments made this show even more special.”

“It’s a complete style. It has everything. It includes classical, contemporary, modern, and acrobatic elements. Nothing is missing. If you think of something, they can do it, and you can see it. Everything is unexpected; you can never predict what the next move will be,” said Ms. Cecchi. “I hope to see it again. Since they change the choreography every year, I hope to return not just next year, but also the year after, and the year after that, bringing more and more people with me.”

Drawing inspiration from China’s rich cultural heritage, each performance also explores themes of spirituality, a value found at the origins of traditional Chinese culture.

Ms. Cazac said, “I think that each of us has our own creator and must believe because that’s how our universe, our world, is made. We must believe in something because it will save us, it helps us live better.”

“The show is beautiful, with wonderful colors, and the dancers are truly talented,” said Filippo Yurinic, the head of digital advertising. “It’s wonderful to see how diverse Chinese culture is compared to what we usually encounter, especially today.”

Shen Yun will be performing in Livorno, Italy, on Jan. 27 and Jan. 28, before continuing in Bari, Italy, on Jan. 30.
