Shen Yun Performing Arts graced the stage at the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 21 and 22. Audience members were delighted by the beauty and skill of the performers.

“It was amazing. Just everything was beautiful. It was fun to watch how in Chinese culture, things are a little bit different than ballet, as I was trained formally. Everything’s lifted and up on high relevé, whereas they do a lot of turns on the heels and it’s a little bit different, but it’s beautiful. It’s like you know how much time and effort and passion went into it,” said Alexis Punturiero, a ballet teacher and a choreographer.

“The choreography was incredible, and the quality of musicianship was superb,” said Valentino Vazquez, a musician. “I never heard anything like it, and so I was very pleased and enthusiastic to come in and see what happened in Chinese culture before communism, and that’s what the program is supposed to represent.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture, from before communism. A culture that the Chinese communist regime has been seeking to destroy since 1949.

“A unique opportunity to experience the Chinese culture, and also a great way to support the mission of bringing awareness to the persecutions that are occurring currently in China,” said Robert Liotta, the owner and attorney at Liotta Law Offices.

Ms. Punturiero said, “You felt the emotion, you felt the passion, you could feel the storyline. And dance is such a beautiful art form that you have storyline. And it’s just the way it intermingled with the dancing and the movements. And I love the way that the outfits were part of the choreography.”

Each performance highlights themes of spirituality and morality, values found at the core of traditional Chinese culture. Audience members resonated with the lessons they learned during the show.

Nathan Abromson, an attorney, said, “The story lines were great lessons in life, eternal principles of life, eternal truths, and they were put to dance and put to music, and we very much enjoyed it.”

Chad James, the owner and creative director at Chad James Design, said, “With the limited attention span of the youth of today, of being about three seconds, it’s important to bring youth to see these types of shows, because those types of memories stay in your heart rather than three seconds.”

Ms. Punturiero said, “If you haven’t seen it, please come see it, because it is absolutely amazing. It is wonderful, a beautiful, beautiful presentation. It had gorgeous choreography, the costuming, the backdrop, the scenery, the music, impeccable.”

Shen Yun will be performing in New York City from March 25 through April 12.
