Shen Yun Performing Arts raised the curtain in Burgos, Spain, on March 17, taking audiences on a journey through ancient China. Local politicians were in attendance and commented on the beauty of the performance.

“It was impressive, I thought it was fantastic. It’s a unique show, I’ve never seen anything like it. Not just the production, the aesthetics, the costumes, or the dance, the message behind everything that’s done, in a word, is incredible,” said Burgos Deputy Mayor Juan Manuel Manso Villalaín.

“What draws my attention the most is the color, the visual richness, the costumes, they are very elaborate, very well made, and with those sleeves in the different scenes, they tell you a different story. I like it, I recommend it, honestly,” said Burgos City Councilor Carolina Álvarez Delgado.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism, and it deeply resonated with the audience.

Ms. Delgado said, “Here they show you a China that is not the China we all imagine today. Here we see a free China, colorful, vibrant, joyful, where each person, even though the dance is choreographed so that everyone should move together, [each person] still moves in their own unique way.”

“For me, the message is the need for there to be freedom. Freedom is important, the freedom of the individual, but that freedom that they show is born from within,” said Inmaculada Sierra Vecilla, the Vice President of the Burgos Provincial Council.

“The struggle, on many occasions, between good and evil, in which good always emerges victorious, demonstrates through the expressiveness of the dance, the aesthetics, and the production that when one acts with integrity, things work out well,” said Mr. Villalaín.

Drawing inspiration from China’s rich cultural heritage, each performance centers on spirituality, a value found at the origins of traditional Chinese culture.

Ms. Vecilla said, “The message of spirituality is very important, that is why I was quite moved when I saw the dance about the persecution, and also the song right after, sung by the tenor accompanied by the piano, with the message that we are here for a special mission.”

“These performances and this way of doing things always convey positive values. And therefore, the more people see it, I believe it will positively influence their behavior. Education in values is always a positive thing,” said Mr. Villalaín.

“I would recommend it 100 percent, of course. I would encourage everyone to come and see it, to enjoy it, to come in and enjoy a performance with a [musical] and visual beauty, with incredible colors, and it also has an impressive message,” said Ms. Vecilla.

Shen Yun will be performing in Lyon, France, from April 6 through April 12.
