Shen Yun
Shen Yun Performing Arts arrived on Jan. 11 at the Zénith of Rouen, a historic city in northern France, nestled along the banks of the Seine in Normandy and renowned for its medieval heritage.
Rouen marks one of Shen Yun’s stops in France, as the artists continue their mission to revive China’s traditional culture from before communism through timeless legends, vibrant costumes, striking digital backdrops, and original live music. Following the performance, Rouen theatergoers shared their sense of wonder and admiration.

Audience Members Captivated by Shen Yun

The performances in Rouen received glowing feedback from theatergoers, who were captivated not only by the incredible artistry but also by the positive energy and emotional resonance the show brought.

Sophie Lebreton, a former opera ballet dancer, shared her admiration for the technical precision and beauty of the dancers. “An extremely high level, very, very high. It’s so beautiful, truly beautiful. The women are wonderful, the men are absolutely splendid. The jumping techniques, the pirouettes. Everything. The synchronization, the harmony. Everything is perfect. Truly perfect.”

Many in the audience also expressed how the performance exceeded their expectations. Louis Brien, a former real estate company owner, was particularly moved by the experience. “It’s absolutely wonderful. I got this as a gift from my children for my birthday, and honestly, I’m very, very, very happy with it. It was really, really beautiful. A great show with a wonderful atmosphere. It’s fantastic.”

One of the most frequent praises was how Shen Yun brought something entirely new and inspiring to the audience. Jennifer Stil, a beauty salon owner, expressed how the show ignited her curiosity about Chinese traditions. “Really outstanding. It’s fabulous, it’s wonderful. It makes you want to travel far beyond here and truly discover all the Chinese traditions that exist. It’s absolutely beautiful.”
She also commented on how the performance went far beyond her expectations, calling it top-notch. “I was expecting an ordinary performance, but in the end, it reached the highest level. So congratulations to all the dancers and the artistic director!”

An Uplifting Experience

Florence Marc, a real estate company owner, noted the deep emotional connection the performance evoked. “You really feel the joy and the unity in the group when they dance. There’s a real harmony. The harmony of their dances, their movements, the colors. The costumes are stunning. It’s breathtaking.”

Beyond the extraordinary display of skill and artistry, many theatergoers mentioned the emotional and spiritual impact of the performance. “When you enter the theater and see the first scene, you immediately feel surrounded by positive energy,” Ms. Stil said. “It’s colorful, it makes you feel good, calm, and safe. The energy is really, really uplifting.”

“I’m really happy that I brought my children as well,” she added. “It’s a wonderful Christmas gift for them. It allows the three of us to share a journey together and enjoy a lovely evening together.”

Another audience member, Véronique Brien, a real estate company owner, echoed similar sentiments about the emotional depth of the performance. “There’s so much energy, so much strength, so much love, so much sharing. So much of everything. I don’t even know how to explain it. It’s beautiful, absolutely beautiful!”

Ms. Brien added: “I wasn’t feeling my best before coming, but watching the performance, listening to the orchestra, watching them smiling and dancing, it helped me focus on myself and forget about everything else for a while. It gave me a moment to reflect and take a break.”

“I feel renewed. It feels so authentic and genuine. Worth seeing again, definitely worth seeing again,” she said.

Shen Yun Performing Arts is set to continue its French tour with a total of 15 cities on the itinerary. Following its performances in Rouen, the company will head to the French capital, Paris, where a series of performances will begin on Jan. 23.
