Shen Yun Performing Arts graced the stage in The Hague, Netherlands, on Jan. 16 and 17, with crowds of people lining up outside the venue. Audience members received them with warm applause and were mesmerized by their artistry.

“It’s breathtakingly beautiful. The aesthetics appeal to me a lot. It’s the beauty of the movements, of the music, the combination of all these things and the message behind it,” said Steven van Wieren, a choir conductor.

“I think it’s really excellent. From the very beginning, I was truly impressed. I really enjoyed it,” said Ruud Goetjaer, a dance teacher. “I think the quality of the dance is number one, it’s very good. I also appreciate the use of projection and 3D. I think the overall picture is excellent.”

“Fantastic, I find it so beautiful. Especially the different forms of production, using video and compilations that disappear [on the back screen], then reappear out of nowhere,” said Jan Rijpstra, a politician and a former mayor. “And the singers are at a very high level.”

“It’s great that they provide a short introduction before starting the dances. Besides that, it’s almost heavenly, so beautiful and so synchronized,” said Annelies van Opstal, a dance teacher.

Shen Yun draws its inspiration from China’s 5,000 years of civilization and virtues, a culture that was believed to find its roots in the divine. Theatergoers expressed their appreciation for the message that Shen Yun presented.

“I thought it was very beautiful that in this performance [spirituality] was highlighted. I think there are many people who still know very little about this, or are not yet aware of it. So I think it is wonderful that in a performance like this, such things are also brought to the forefront,” said van Wieren.

“It was wonderful to see a piece of the old culture from before communism. It was very peaceful and compassionate,” said Marleen Bardolf, a business owner. “It would be great if many people could learn from this, especially the Chinese government, to think and operate differently in the future.”

“I find the core values, tolerance, respect, commitment, and consideration for fellow human beings, reflected in broader terms. This is something we tend to lose,” said Bruno Reisemus, an IT consultant.

“I would say to come here, come see this and let [the message] sink in, take it home, and do something with it,” said Rijpstra.

Shen Yun will be returning to The Hague, Netherlands, for three performances on Feb. 18 and 19.
