Shen Yun Performing Arts presented a series of shows in Toulouse, France, from April 24 to April 29. Through story-based dances, ancient legends, and timeless virtues came alive on stage. Shen Yun conveys the depth and breadth of genuine Chinese culture, bringing the magnificence of 5,000 years of civilization back to life. After decades of communist rule, much of this divinely inspired culture has been lost. Audience members commented on the beauty of the performance.

“There’s this sense of purity that comes through in the dancers, in the dance, but also in the clothes, which are really beautiful and harmonious,” said Gabriel Hoyos, a project manager with The European Project.

Anne Garnier, a physician, said, “Very ethereal. The dresses are magnificent, they sparkle, it’s really nice. And they’re very well worn. They’re truly super elegant and very delicate. It’s very beautiful.”

“It is truly breathtaking choreography. You have magnificent colors, you have dancers who are at the very top, one can really say that,” said Gérard Hommage, a director at JH Concept. “The musicians are really very, very, good. One can say that truly, they have reached the top. It’s really, in a way, the cornerstone of Shen Yun, because the music is important, that’s what carries it, what carries the dancers. To come back to the dancers, truly, they are wonderful.”

“I think there’s something behind it that really speaks to you. It keeps the basics, like human values and the kindness that can be felt. So yes, it can really convey something. You don’t come out of it the same, you feel that real value has been created,” said Mr. Hoyos.

“The ethnic differences as well, and the differences between the regions, all these dances, they’re really bringing something back to life. Because indeed, we realize that over there, [in China] it’s forbidden. So, I wonder how they manage to pull off this feat, because it can’t be easy to keep it alive when you’re so far from the country where it was born,” said Guillaume Escoffre, an engineer.

Founded in New York in 2006, the company celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. In over two decades, Shen Yun has performed on five continents, in over 200 cities, and in front of over 11 million people. Theatergoers were impressed by the artists, sharing their appreciation of the performance they witnessed.

Mr. Escoffre said, “You can see it’s a beautiful energy, a great group. You can tell they really enjoy being there. It really comes through on stage. There’s nothing fake about it. You see that they’re fully committed. It looks very athletic. These are high-level athletes when you watch them. I think the training must be quite tough, and the fact that they can share it like this, traveling around the world, I imagine it must bring them even closer together.”

Mr. Hoyos said, “I think it’s fascinating to watch the show, the quality, the perfect timing, and the instruments used. Honestly, the quality is extraordinary, and we should acknowledge that. Synchronization is flawless; they are true professionals. That side of it, I see it, it’s an escape in every way. So yes, I would definitely tell others that it’s amazing.”

“It’s uplifting, it is truly uplifting. What one can say is that Shen Yun conveys a message, one feels it. And this message, for those who can take it in and receive it, can give an opening into spirituality, into this law of the universe, the knowledge of the universe, the laws of the universe, what governs us in the end,” said Mr. Hommage.

Ms. Garnier said, “I think everyone should come see it, even the younger ones. We have two children, and I think it would have been great for them to see it.”

Mr. Hoyos said, “You have to see it, it’s gorgeous, as she says. But there’s also this, let’s say, magical side, the way it all comes together with the dancers, and even the technique behind it, it’s just beautiful.”

Shen Yun has now concluded its 2026 European Tour. The company will return with a whole new production next year.
