Shen Yun Performing Arts captivated audience members at the American Bank Center Selena Auditorium in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Feb. 25, showcasing 5 millennia of Chinese culture, through heavenly scenes and traditional Chinese dance and music. Audience members praised the artists, saying they felt elated.

“I can’t stop smiling, I have a permanent smile that’s on my face. From the very first scene, I was just elated with joy. And the colors, the artistry, everything, the syncing of the dancers with the music, it just overwhelmed. It was incredibly overwhelming,” said Eduardo Estevez, a mortgage originator.

“I thought it was extraordinary. It was captivating from the very first step, the synchronization of the dancing is what I thought was most amazing. Every dancer was perfectly in sync in every step all the way through the show,” said Justin Butts, a business owner.

“I feel the energy of it, and I love the music, because it’s a very different type of change from what we typically hear in the United States,” said Ronald Graban, a real estate developer.

“It’s beautiful, it brings in the traditions of the Chinese, and the culture and everything. And it’s hard to see it because the world’s changed so much, and to see it is so beautiful,” said Michael Bowler, a former business owner.

Shen Yun, the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company, is based in New York and currently can’t perform in China. Its mission is to show the world China from before communism. Through the performance, Shen Yun reveals the brutal persecution of beliefs by the Chinese Communist Party.

“Persecution has always been a problem throughout human history, and it’s a terrible thing that is still happening in our world today. And I compliment all of those actors and actresses and performers that want to stand up and have a passion for expressing themselves,” Mr. Graban said.

“It’s almost surreal to see a performance of an ancient, 5,000-year-old culture that we can see in the United States that you can’t see in the country that it comes from. And it’s kind of heartbreaking that all of these people that are showing this culture can’t do it in their own country. So I would say, if you can come out and see this show, come out and see it, because it’s an incredible show. But you’re also supporting and helping to promote and keep alive an ancient culture,” Mr. Butts said.

“The way that it was expressed throughout the entire event was like, this is real. This is something that actually is in other places today, and that’s happening now. And to see a movement almost to rise up in sight of persecution or anything that could happen. It was amazing,” Mr. Estevez said.

“It is a beautiful show. It is a stunning performance, and you will be on the edge of your seat from the time the curtain opens until it drops, it is a beautiful show,” Mr. Butts said.

Shen Yun will be performing at the McAllen Performing Arts Center in McAllen, Texas, on March 1 and March 2.
