CURITIBA, Brazil—Shen Yun Performing Arts brought audiences in Curitiba on a journey through ancient China on April 27 through classical Chinese dance, live orchestral music, and storytelling inspired by traditional Chinese culture.

Audience members praised the performance’s artistry, choreography, costumes, and spiritual themes.

Rogerio Torres, an entrepreneur who attended with psychologist Lilian Torres, described the performance as unforgettable.

“Fantastic, wonderful, it is indescribable,” Mr. Torres said. “You have to come see it to absorb all the beauty that this performance has. Just talking about it, you cannot understand how wonderful it is.”

Isabela Loso, a business owner, praised the synchronization of the dancers and the live orchestra.

“I thought it was a true spectacle—the synchronization of the dancers, the costumes, the live music,” Ms. Loso said. “Truly spectacular.”

She said her entire family was deeply impressed by the performance.

“My mother-in-law said it was the performance that amazed her the most in her entire life,” Ms. Loso said. “And she has been to operas in Europe. Our whole family was in awe.”

Ms. Loso, who said she enjoys dance herself, also praised the performers’ technique and elegance on stage.

“The lightness of the arms and legs—you don’t even hear any noise on stage,” she said. “They float in the air. It was wonderful.”

Gabriela Lorena Segredo Marinho, an architect, said she was moved by both the artistic and spiritual aspects of the production.

“The performance is wonderful,” Ms. Marinho said. “The artists dance with such lightness.”

She also said she appreciated the performance’s themes of goodness and spirituality.

“It’s always worth believing in goodness, in the divine, and not letting oneself be carried away by the sadness of current times,” she said.

Based in New York, Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism through classical Chinese dance and music.

Audience members said the performance conveyed a message of harmony and inner peace.

“The colors draw a lot of attention,” Mr. Torres said. “But especially what they seek to convey to us—they seek to convey harmony, peace, and the conviction that there is still a possibility that we may live harmoniously in the world.”

He added that the performance successfully connected spiritual and material themes.

“They make this correlation between the material and the spiritual worlds,” he said. “Very good.”

Debora Fisher, a real estate broker, said Shen Yun’s mission to preserve traditional culture carried an important message.

“I think the main message is to continue carrying forward the culture that has been silenced because of the current situation in China,” Ms. Fisher said. “To continue conveying that soul and spirit through art was truly beautiful.”

Lilian Torres said the performance introduced audiences to a culture many people in Brazil know little about.

“It’s not only the choreography—it’s everything together,” she said. “The costumes, the technique of the dancers, all the history, and the way they present Chinese culture.”

“After this performance, you see how many beautiful things exist in that Eastern world,” she added.

Ms. Loso said she hopes Shen Yun will return to Curitiba again next year.

“The director responsible for this wonderful show deserves congratulations,” she said. “We welcome them back with open arms.”
