Shen Yun Performing Arts wrapped up three performances in Białystok, Poland, from Jan. 6 through Jan. 7. Through classical Chinese dance and live music, the artists brought the beauty and spirit of traditional Chinese culture to life on stage.

“It was the first time I had seen anything like that. I think it will also be a bit of an inspiration for me in my own dance work," said Zbigniew Brzeziński, a dance instructor.

"I am truly captivated by Chinese dance, because it is also a folk dance, which I love very much. And it needs to be cultivated and shown to others, to the world as well. Not only in Poland or globally, other countries should show it too,” said Mr. Brzeziński.

Julian Krupica, a doctor, said, “It was beautiful how the performers seemed to float, almost like feathers. It made an incredible impression. How is it possible for the human body to jump so high and perform such acrobatics?”

“We are impressed above all by the technique, which you can see is a class of its own, simply impossible to imitate. Plus the wonderful animation ideas that make the whole show,” said Robert Jadłowski, a cinematographer for Polish Public TV. “The animation enriches, adds, transports you to another dimension. It simply adds a third dimension to this show. You could say that you feel wrapped up in the show.”

Shen Yun’s orchestra is the first in the world to combine classical Chinese and Western instruments.

“The music was beautiful, very rich. And the combination of the orchestra, with traditional Chinese, Eastern instruments, together with Western ones? I think it’s a perfect match,” said Damian Choinski, a surgeon.

Waldemar Borysewicz, the director of the Suwałki Sports and Recreation Center, said, “The music is, of course, very beautiful. But the music combined with dance, music alone is not enough, I think, here, everything was combined perfectly. The color scheme is striking, absolutely outstanding.

He added: "I’ve been to many events and performances, but honestly, such an abundance of colors, beautiful digital backdrops, and the combination of what the performers do on stage, then suddenly appearing on the screen, an excellent integration. I haven’t seen anything like this before, so it was probably the most interesting thing I’ve experienced.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun has been touring the world since 2006 on a mission to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism.

“Well, we know what is happening in China. We regret it deeply, because I believe such a beautiful country with such a rich culture has been reduced to the level of an ordinary communist regime. It is very sad, it saddens us greatly, and we wish that one day changes will come, as they did in Europe and in Poland, that the system will fall and things will return to their original state,” said Dr. Choinski.

Tomasz Januszewski, the CEO of Pablo Color, said, “What captivates me the most is how the dancers present their culture in a unique way. A deep culture. 5,000 years is a very deep culture. For us, it is captivating. Magnificent costumes. Flowing sleeves. And the beautiful three-dimensionality of this performance makes it a unique experience.”

Shen Yun’s performance highlights themes of faith and spirituality, values that resonated with different audience members.

Mr. Januszewski added that “what surprised me in this performance was how God, the Creator, was praised in the song. It’s something incredible. This is unique in the world because China is associated with the culture of the last hundred years, with the culture from Mao, through dictators, through certain restrictions. Here we see freedom of expression, praise for God, something unbelievable. I am enchanted by this situation.”

“Generally, any positive presentation has a good influence on the world. Because I think the amount of bad information that bombards us from every direction is enormous. Good, positive messages are very rare. So I think any message that is about kindness, that speaks about love, about friendship, about the fact that you can help someone, save someone, that we are not alone, is really good. And that is of great value,” said Mr. Jadłowski.

Shen Yun is currently performing in Lodz, Poland, until Jan. 12, before finishing out in Lublin on Jan. 18.
