Delaware Rep. Awards Shen Yun Certificate of Recognition for Effort

March 23, 2024

Shen Yun Performing Arts brought a display of color, music, and dance to Pennsylvania’s Miller Theater over the weekend, closing out its performances there.

To honor the performance: Delaware state Rep. Lyndon Yearick presented Shen Yun with a certificate of recognition, recognizing its artists’ commitment to preserving China’s 5,000 years of rich, traditional culture.

“The artistry is magnificent, the visual, the dance, the music, it puts it all together. Those are our senses that we live off of, that very few words are spoken during it outside of the performers, the vocalist. But the beauty of the dance is visual and so impactful that it has no language that it does not relate to,” said Mr. Yearick.

He was deeply impressed with Shen Yun’s artistry.

“It’s amazing. Divine, majestical, beautiful, powerful, engaging, persistence, the hard work, the history. Just an amazing show that can portray 5,000 years of a dynamic culture and country.”

Charles Hindsley, a former opera tenor, had nothing but high praise for Shen Yun.

“Top, quality, top, the best. They were right on everything, their timing. What can I say? They were just phenomenal,” said Mr. Hindsley.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive Chinese traditions that were almost lost when communism took power in the country in 1949.

“It’s just a tragic story that the Communist Party still has that significant power and threat over the people of China,” said Mr. Yearick. “This is a very small world. And those universal truths of faith, kindness, honesty, empathy, compassion, which the show brings forward, we can just practice those every day. The world would be a better place one person at a time.”

Jonathan DiVincenzo, a cyber security specialist, said: “I think it’s great that they’re trying to show what goes on in China, and what is not actually allowed to be shown there. It’s great that people here get to see it and get to experience that here.”

Christopher Walsh, a medication safety pharmacist at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, said: “It’s a great depiction of China’s history before the communist takeover. So I was really impressed with a lot of the costume design. The music was a nice blend of Eastern and Western music.”

Audience members also pointed to Shen Yun’s efforts to bring an all-new performance to the stage every year, complete with original music and choreography.

“I would 110 percent recommend that. It was great to hear that there’s a different show each and every year. So that it’s not just one show, then you’ve seen it all. It’s a new performance and it’s a history lesson each and every year, under the principles of truth and kindness,” said Mr. Yearick.

Michael Gourdine, the owner of MG Alarms & Security, said: “Come and see it, it was enlightening and gives you a smile on your face the whole time you’re sitting there watching it.”

George Haimbach, the music director at Glenmoore United Methodist Church, loved Shen Yun’s performance and could not wait to come back again.

“Keep doing it, it’s beautiful. I want to come back. It’s wonderful,” he said.

Shen Yun will next perform at the Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara, California, on March 23 and 24.
