‘Enlightening and Beautiful’ Shen Yun Brings ‘Unity’ to Ohio Audience

February 10, 2023

Shen Yun came to Cleveland, Ohio, on Feb. 4–5. Many said they were impressed by the beauty of the performance.

“Awesome, outstanding, opulent, more than I expected,” said attorney Mike Tully.

“I didn’t realize everybody would be as fluid and as balanced. And the costumes were beautiful. The movie projector in the background with the way the actors came in and out of the screen was seamless,” he added.

“It’s very enlightening and beautiful as well,” said landscape designer and co-owner of Leaf Scape Design Julia Shutt, who was also in the audience. She appreciated the costume and the color of the performance.

“The color really tells the story. When we’re talking about evil, we’re seeing red. And when we’re talking about light and purity, we’re seeing yellows and pastels. So I think the colors are very evocative of emotion. And I think the designer of the show did a great job, the costume designer, very good,” she said.

Audience members appreciated China’s 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture that Shen Yun portrays.

Alex Kuszawski is a lawyer at Rockwell Automation. This is not the first time he and his family watched Shen Yun but he said this new performance is stronger and more relevant.

“The traditional Chinese culture, and how relevant that is for the world today to see that the desire of beauty, of the dance, of the music, of the color, of the strength of the culture, and the desire of the religious and search for spiritual awareness as well, very powerful,” he said.

“They’re bringing in the Chinese culture, the ancient Chinese culture, which is very beautiful. And, it brings the core of all of our beliefs, it brings a unity to it,” said Byron Shutt, co-owner of Leaf Scape Design.

“I was surprised to hear that these performances are banned in China,” Mr. Tully said.

“I feel bad for the Chinese people that they can’t appreciate all that these dancers and artists brought to our country. Perhaps someday that will change. And it was very informative about the history of China as well,” he added.

Shen Yun also shines a light on persecution that’s going on under the Chinese communist regime, including organ harvesting.

“I’ve heard about organ harvesting, and the atrocity of that is unbelievable. And that most people are ignorant of that tells you all you need to know about what’s going on,” Mr. Shutt said.

“It was informative. I think all Americans should support as many causes as they can to bring freedom and civil rights back to China,” Mr. Tully said.

“I think there’s a strong desire worldwide for people to explore their religious freedom. And I think– Shen Yun really showcases that desire of the heart,” Mr. Kuszawski said.
