ESCONDIDO, Calif.—Being experts in their field, Shen Yun Performing Arts has moved the hearts of millions of audience members around the world.

“The talent and the expertise. It’s just so precise—the practice, the camaraderie, and emotion. It brought tears to my eyes in the beginning because it was so emotional for me,” said Deanna Krause, a company owner.

Shen Yun is based in New York and the artists are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.

“I grew up dancing. So the amount of concentration and the devotion and the sacrifice that it has taken to come this far. Nothing worthwhile is easy. You’ve got blessings,” Ms. Krause said.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization with Shen Yun’s eight companies premiering an all-new program each season featuring the highlights of those 5,000 years.

“I appreciate the commitment and the hard work. And you can see it on their faces of how much they enjoy sharing this whole story and their talent with us. I’m so appreciative and applaud them for their dedication,” Ms. Krause shared.

A Shen Yun performance consists of beautiful dance and music, including dance stories that portray modern-day China. In one dance, Falun Gong practitioners, following the principles of truth, compassion, and forbearance, were persecuted for their faith.

Ms. Krause shared that she agrees with the principles and they are what she teaches to her children as well.

“There’s so much controversy in the world today, but I believe in that. That’s the foundation of goodness. And we raised our children in the same thoughts and believing in the same principles—goodness,” she shared.

Shen Yun’s two Masters of Ceremony give brief introductions to each piece so that those who aren’t familiar with Chinese culture will be able to enjoy and understand each dance.

“Explaining the heritage from it and understanding, The storytelling is very understandable. And the entertainment part of it is amazing,” praised Ms. Krause.

Shen Yun’s singers are trained in bel canto technique and the digital backdrop provides a translation of the Chinese text being sung.

Ms. Krause shared that she agreed with a lot of the text “explaining the religion of believing in higher power.”
