Shen Yun
Shen Yun Performing Arts graced the stage across four cities in the state of Texas from Jan. 4 to 11. Audience members were taken on a journey through 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism, through a display of classical Chinese dance, music, and legends.

“I’ve seen Shen Yun in Washington, D.C. I’ve seen Shen Yun in New York City. I’ve seen Shen Yun in Paris, and now I’ve seen Shen Yun in San Antonio, Texas,” said Jason Jones, a film producer and human rights activist. “I remember the first time going, just being in awe. And it was very obvious that this is a beautiful rescue of a civilization that’s being ravaged by an ideology, a brutal ideology. And so you guys say this is China before communism, but actually that’s not true. It’s China now, because where you are, China lives, and it’s also China after communism, because one day we’re going to see a free, beautiful, vibrant China again.”

Sean Stonehouse, a digital marketer, said: “The announcers would come out and give you a background of the story and what’s happening, makes it more professional, and then you can follow along with the storyline as it goes. It was beautiful.”

“I’m amazed at, of course, the ability of the dancers,” said Kate McGrory, an interior designer. “It’s all just beautiful. All of them are beautiful. The men are beautiful, the women are beautiful, the costumes are beautiful, very elegant.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun has been touring the world since 2006, bringing to life the values of ancient China, with themes of spirituality, morality, and kindness.

“It’s the emotional connection to the audience that’s really the most important thing. Because at times it can be intense, at times it’s light as a feather,” said Steven Smith, a graphic designer. “So it’s like all the emotion that goes into it is just fantastic.”

Tim Morrow, a creative services manager with KCBD News, said: “I think that’s a fantastic message. I think we could all use a little more kindness and compassion for each other. We make this world a better place to live in for everybody.”

“I want to say to the artists, to the dancers, the musicians, and to those who cook in the cafeteria and to the janitors that clean the school and to the teachers at Fei Tian Academy, to everyone at Fei Tian Academy, to those that support the Academy, I want to thank you for your hard work, for your courage, for your discipline,” said Mr. Jones. “You are doing more than sharing beauty, which is enough. You are saving a civilization and you are sharing it with the world.”

Shen Yun will be returning to Austin, Texas, on Jan. 21 for one more show, and will be performing in Dallas, Texas, from Jan. 17 to 25.
