STAMFORD, Conn.—Shen Yun Performing Arts’ first performance in Stamford on the afternoon of May 7 was sold out. During the performance, when the emcees explained that “Shen Yun” means the beauty of divine beings dancing, the audience responded with enthusiastic applause.

Sarah Wreede, a former Broadway set designer, praised the performance for bringing such a wonderful experience. “They did an amazing job. They are so talented physically and artistically. It was beautiful.”

“It’s just a beautiful show. I appreciate the work that went into it. It’s just incredible,” actor Brian Carney said.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from “China before communism” through classical Chinese dance and music.

Sidney Lipschitz, a former vice president of sales, said, “I thought the show was excellent and it was very informative. The culture of the Chinese people was just shining. It was just very beautiful.

“It was very inspiring to see that people continue their beliefs and what they believe in, and that communism should not have any negative effect on what they’re trying to accomplish. So it was very, very good,” he added.

Mrs. Wreede also mentioned, “It’s a wonderful mission and it’s a beautiful history. And the artistry; all of that is wonderful and it’s great that they’re sharing it.”

“It’s good that you’re trying to preserve your history, your culture. It would be good for the generations that are born thereafter that they can still see what it was like before,” Jean Marie Prince, a Christian TV talk show host, said.

Based in New York, Shen Yun has been touring the world since 2006 and has grown to eight companies of equal size. Shen Yun cannot perform in China because it seeks to revive traditional culture from China before communism, and its performances portray modern-day stories reflecting the ongoing persecution of faith in China. Audience members also expressed sadness over this reality.

Mrs. Wreede also said, “That’s a sad, sad thing that they can’t share it with their own country. The stories were very powerful, very touching to see the results of the things that happen when communism comes in and all of that. It had a very powerful story.”

“I think they’re very good. I think they should continue to do their very, very best and they should be successful in inspiring people further in the future. It was just very beautiful to watch,” Mr. Lipschitz said.

Mr. Urban added, “I’d tell my friends to buy a ticket and come see it for yourself.”

Shen Yun will make a return to Toronto, Canada, performing June 25–28.
