GUADALAJARA, Mexico—Shen Yun Performing Arts captivated audiences in Guadalajara on May 8 with performances of classical Chinese dance, live orchestral music, and stories inspired by ancient Chinese legends.

Audience members praised the artistry, vibrant costumes, and spiritual themes presented throughout the performance.

Noemí Amezcua Valdés, a former dancer, commended the performers for preserving and sharing traditional Chinese culture.

“First of all, I congratulate you enormously,” Ms. Valdés said. “I congratulate you on your discipline, on maintaining the culture of a country as amazing as China, and on spreading Chinese culture in this way.”

Nadia Alejandra González, a business owner, described the performance as visually stunning and emotionally powerful.

“For me, it was magic, spectacular, something fantastical,” Ms. González said. “The colors were so striking and the costumes so beautiful.”

She also praised the orchestra and vocal performances.

“The movements of the dancers, the music, the orchestra, the baritone who sang spectacularly without a microphone—it was wonderful,” she said.

Alejandro Sagún Godínez, a business owner, said the performance reminded audiences of the importance of spirituality.

“The performance is something that reminds you of the spirituality that we’ve been neglecting,” Mr. Godínez said. “And that is so needed right now for the whole planet.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of divinely inspired traditional Chinese culture from before communism through classical Chinese dance and music.

Audience members said the performance’s message about values, identity, and human connection deeply resonated with them.

“What you are doing through art and culture is helping us rediscover the essence of where we come from and who we are,” said Irma Serafina González Hernández, a business owner. “It’s very valuable. I congratulate you.”

Ms. González said the performance also encouraged reflection on personal values and inner strength.

“Someone said that strength is born from tranquility,” she said. “In addition to this wonderful show, you also take away these values that help make us better people.”

Mr. Godínez said the performance carried a message about reconnecting with humanity’s shared roots.

“It’s something we all have to experience,” he said. “I think we should all come and experience it to reconnect with our roots, to remember where we come from, and that we are all united so we can support each other.”

He encouraged others not to miss future performances.

“Don’t miss the chance to experience it next time they’re here,” Mr. Godínez said. “One hundred percent recommended.”

Founded in 2006, Shen Yun now operates eight touring companies that perform simultaneously around the world, presenting an entirely new production each season.
