GUADALAJARA, Mexico—Shen Yun Performing Arts captivated audiences in Guadalajara on May 7 with a performance featuring classical Chinese dance, live orchestral music, and animated digital backdrops inspired by 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture.

Audience members praised the production’s artistry, emotional depth, and spiritual themes.

Gabriel Sales Piñon, a musician, said the combination of Western and Chinese instruments created a unique musical experience.

“Combining Western instruments with Chinese instruments struck me as a fusion that works really well,” Mr. Piñon said. “Acoustically, it transports you right to the East, to a culture so far away, yet so close at the same time.”

Domingo Moraton, a business owner, praised Shen Yun’s integration of stage performance with digital effects.

“The interaction between the stage and the digital world is really beautiful,” Mr. Moraton said. “It’s something special about Shen Yun.”

Sergio Tabares Orozco, a teacher, said the performance brought him a wide range of emotions.

“I think the element of surprise is what I enjoyed the most,” Mr. Orozco said. “Every single moment I experienced truly evoked a different emotion in me, from joy to the thrill of watching each dance unfold. I’m leaving feeling very happy and fulfilled by the entire show.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun has toured internationally since 2006 with a mission to revive traditional Chinese culture from before communism through classical Chinese dance and music.

Audience members said the performance’s spiritual themes and traditional values resonated deeply with them.

“Well, it has been something fabulous because here we are seeing two important things: beauty and art,” Mr. Moraton said. “Within that artistic aspect, there’s also the spiritual aspect. So yes, it touched me very deeply in the heart.”

Mr. Piñon said the music emotionally transported him through an unfamiliar culture.

“It took me on a journey through China,” he said. “The music carries you away, motivates you, moves you deep inside. It’s hard to explain, but it really does move you internally.”

He compared the flow of the music to water.

“That harmony just flows—it’s like a river, like the sea, like the movement of water,” Mr. Piñon said. “That’s what happened to me.”

Mr. Orozco said the performance inspired him to learn more about Chinese history and traditions.

“I’m really excited because it introduced me to a wonderful story I didn’t know about,” he said. “It motivates me to learn more about Chinese history, its ancestors, its traditions, and above all, this wonderful world that is Eastern culture.”

Mr. Piñon said the performance also left him reflecting on spirituality and personal growth.

“I’m left with the feeling and the need to spread this kindness as well, to be a better person, to appreciate art more, and to let myself be carried away by the music,” he said. “Without the spiritual side, believe me, we’re lost.”

Mr. Moraton said the traditional culture presented on stage carried a profound emotional connection.

“I love their culture,” he said. “It’s the kind of culture that touches your soul. It’s a beautiful culture with deep roots.”
