Cynthia Peeples, a former anchor from an NBC affiliate, watched Shen Yun on March 2 at the State’s Theater in Cleveland, Ohio. She was deeply moved by the performance.
“I thought it was fantastic. I thought it was an excellent representation of the culture, past, historical, and present and where you want to be in the future. I thought it was a really nice integration of the history with a bit of technology,” she said. “When you have an opportunity to have artists, specifically performing artists, come and tell their story, it’s very moving.
“There were several times when I was watching this presentation, I was moved to tears. It is a very powerful performance for me.”
Every aspect of the performance was attractive for Peeples, especially the live orchestra.
“And I really like the use of the color story, as well [as], I mean the color palette, really visually, it grabbed you. The music was very uplifting and inspirational at the same time. The entire time I was watching it, I didn’t feel any lows,” she added. “I felt like I was constantly elevated.”
Shen Yun’s orchestra is unique. It has seamlessly blended the exquisite beauty of Chinese melodies with the grandeur of a Western symphony.
“The music is relaxing. It’s transcendent. It gives people something to think about and feel more above the earthly, daily things,” Dr. Adel S. Zaraa said.
Dr. Zaraa is a professor of Psychiatry and a former director at Cleveland Clinic Akron General. He was impressed with Shen Yun’s uplifting display and appreciated its mission to revive traditional Chinese culture.
“The colors, the setting, the choreography, and the music, all new and expands peoples’ horizons, and encourage friendship and peace in the end,” he added.
“Traditional values are always good because they are very spiritual and philosophical. Whether it’s Daoism or Confucianism, or Buddhism, it’s beautiful. It’s peaceful, it’s friendship. It’s about balance in life, it’s about peace, and the right always wins.”
