Izumi Kazunari, a saxophonist, said, “I was truly deeply moved. This was my first time seeing it. You really have to experience it in person.”
“Simply put, it’s magnificent. As a professional musician, I originally intended to focus on the musical aspects, but I found myself drawn instead to the integration of the stage and the animated backdrop. From a musical perspective, however, Shen Yun’s music has a truly distinctive character,” said Takeo Nishida, a veteran musician.
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism, through classical Chinese dance and music.
Mr. Kazunari, a director of a music school, said, “In one sentence: absolutely spectacular. As a professional musician, I originally intended to focus on the musical aspects, but I found myself captivated by the integration of the stage performance and the animated backdrop. From a musical perspective, Shen Yun’s music has a truly distinctive charm.”
Mr. Nishida said, “I’m only learning this now—that one person oversees everything, including the music composition, the costume design, and even the animated backdrop? Really? Then I can say that today, I truly witnessed his work in the fullest sense. That is really remarkable. I believe all of this is probably created under the overall direction of Shen Yun’s artistic director. I think that’s probably the case. Because he is able to directly bring that sense of balance in his mind to the stage, no single element feels overly emphasized or out of place. It is truly outstanding.”
“Shen Yun presents the instruments in a way that stays as close as possible to their most authentic, natural sound. And precisely because of that, audience members naturally become more engaged in listening. Looking at the satisfied and joyful expressions on the faces of audience members as they left the theater, you could tell just how wonderful the performance had been,” Mr. Kazunari said.
Fubuki Takane, a former Takarazuka Revue top star, said, “Although the performers make it look effortless, they are actually demonstrating extremely advanced techniques. They make highly difficult movements look completely effortless. It was truly remarkable.”
“Shen Yun has grown from a single company to eight companies today. That is truly an incredible achievement. I wish [Shen Yun] continued success in the years ahead,” said Mr. Kazunari.
