LONDON–Shen Yun Performing Arts brings to life 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture before communism, through the art form of classical Chinese dance and storytelling.

Audiences watching Shen Yun at the Eventim Apollo in London on Jan. 17 and 18 were amazed at the artistry displayed in the performance.

Film Editor Nick Gilberg commended the artists, saying they are "incredible."

"The way that they portray each dance and the way they portray the story, from the musicians ... to the dancers as well. They're incredible with how they get the emotion and the story across with each of their movements," he said. "They're just incredibly talented, and you can see that they put so many hours into what they do, into the craft that they do."

"Fantastic. I loved the message that's behind it, and it's quite an uplifting message, especially in the present times, what the world is going through, and it gives hope to people," said Former Merchant Ship Captain Sunil Malhotra.

Trained in New York, Shen Yun artists perform stories from ancient legends to those set in modern-day China. All of the performances display traditional Chinese values, such as benevolence, justice, and wisdom.

Gilberg said, "It's an entertaining show. But at the same time, it gives us a lot of insight into Chinese traditions, but also it reminds us of the community and how we need to look after each other and ourselves a bit more."

"To actually see it in reality was fantastic, including several new things that I'd never seen before, and learning about the history behind it was also very informative," said Kris Blackhall, a surgeon. "So not only was it amazing choreography, but it was also fantastic to actually learn something while we were here as well."

China had a culture built on beliefs from Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. Ancient Chinese believed their culture was a gift from the heavens, full of wisdom that can continue to guide people today.

"These stories and tales reflect through to the modern day, much as they did to people in the past. And even though the world is a very different place now, you can still call upon these old tales of the past to guide your current way of thinking, and such as well," Blackhall said.

Malhotra commented on the hope he felt after watching Shen Yun.
"Mankind, we are looking for hope. And there seems to be despair all around, there seems to be darkness. We are looking for that light. And that hope and that light is what it showed," he said.
