Shen Yun, a performance that brings China’s 5,000 years of traditional culture alive on stage, moved audiences in McAllen, Texas on April 15. They said it was fantastic and unique.

“I love how beautiful all of the costumes are, and how precise the dances are. Everything is just spot on. It’s magical. It’s beautiful to watch,” said Amanda Saenz, an account sales manager for Melinta Therapeutic.

“Phenomenal, artistic, just the acrobats and all—the dance, the music, I mean, it all came together so beautifully. I truly appreciate the culture, and I thought it was fantastic,” said Andrew Almaguer, the assistant district attorney of Hidalgo County.

“We were very moved, and how emotional, and it actually got me to tear up and cry because of how beautiful it was,” said Aaron Mendez, the CEO of Collision Stop. “You could really feel the emotion in the orchestra, the emotion in the way that they were singing. And it was just very heartfelt, something very unique,”

Matro Olivarez, the COO of Olive Marketing Firm, said Shen Yun’s storylines are moving: “There’s romanticism, there’s thrilling, there’s battles. There’s all kinds of beautiful things going on in the background. And so there’s fairytales, but you could see some prose and realism in the stories as well.”

Theatergoers said there is a deeper message behind the performance, that they can understand across cultures.

“I think the message of there’s a spiritual force behind it, a Creator,” Mr. Almaguer said.

“It’s something that we believe in. As far as this is not our home, there is definitely a spiritual world. And, so it resonates with me very well as far as what the Chinese culture is talking about as well,” Ms. Saenz said.

“I really liked it. I’m a very spiritual person myself, so I really appreciate it. And I felt a very strong connection with the message,” Mr. Mendez said. “I think it’s just inspiration, hope, and love.”

“It’s gorgeous. It’s beautifully choreographed. And the music is something that you don’t see unless you travel to a faraway land. So it’s nice to see that they’re bringing these type of shows to a market like McAllen. It’s really sweet,” Ms. Olivarez said.

Shen Yun is performing simultaneously in eight cities around the world this week, including Purchase, New York, and London.
