“Divine,” “incredible,” “wonderful,” and “absolutely perfect!” These are just some of the words that were used to describe Shen Yun Performing Arts’ latest performances in Milton Keynes, UK.

“The costumes are just divine. The performance is incredible,” said Lindsey Howsam, a company founder. She came to see Shen Yun with her family, including her 18-year-old daughter.

“It actually attracts all ages. And I would recommend this to anybody; all walks of life, to bring family because the dancing is just divine.”

Leigh James, a senior qualifications lead, was equally enthused.

“It’s wonderful. The costumes, the dance, the athleticism … It’s absolutely perfect!”

Shen Yun’s performance is titled “China Before Communism” and tells stories from 5,000 years of Chinese civilization.

Actor Pam Cooper enjoyed the historical aspect of the performance and noted the freedoms that had been lost in modern-day China. She mused over “the freedoms that once were” and “the old ways.”

Way Wong is a consultant for the NHS. He was born in the UK and his family comes from Hong Kong. He said he had never visited mainland China. He appreciated the stories reflecting the diversity in China and its traditions.

“I think it’s good to know where you come from. And also, good to know all the different varieties, China is not one, just single, the same all over, it is a whole continent in itself, with many different races and beliefs, and traditions.”

Audience members spoke of the gracefulness of the performers.

“The movement on the dance floor, they just … they just glide! It is. It’s incredible! It really is. Wow. It’s the wow factor.”

They said they were impressed by Shen Yun’s mission to revive authentic Chinese culture and the values of truthfulness and kindness.

“Wow … I’m in awe of what they do. Because if everybody … if people could be more like that, the world would be a better place,” said Lindsey Howsam.

Shen Yun is performing in ten cities during its 2024 UK tour. The next stop is Northampton before the show arrives in London.
