Shen Yun Performing Arts performed at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark on May 1, dazzling audiences with its story-based dances, vibrant costumes, and patented digital backdrop.

“Very beautiful. The costumes were gorgeous, and the culture that it presented was very, very beautiful. I enjoyed it very much,” said Mark Dagostini, an engineering manager.

“I think that we’re learning a lot. It’s beautiful, it’s colorful, and it’s like an adventure,” said Irena Bartman-Fila, a psychotherapist.

“I think all of just showing the strength of the dancers in the different moves, the jumps, the kicks. It’s really beautiful. The costumes are awesome,” said Lorin Bradley, a labor relations director.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before communism. Audience members resonated with the cultural messages and values presented on stage.

Rick Andersen, a supply chain specialist, said, “The performance was spectacular, and the vignettes were enlightening, and really showed a lot about the culture. And it was very enlightening to see the different stories and the lessons that they imparted to us, very uplifting.”

Mr. Dagostini said, “It’s very beautiful, and it reminds us that all these cultures that were hit so hard by communism had a beautiful, spiritual past, and hopefully they can return to it.”

He added, “I think good will triumph over evil, and that’s what I think the story culminated with, and it was a beautiful ending.”

“Brilliant performance and just a lot of passion, you can tell is there. And, I honestly just love the culture, the real Chinese culture, and I want to see more of that in America,” said Kyle Huber, a business owner.

Mr. Andersen said, “I’d love to say to another 20 years, and I hope to be around to see every one of those 20 years and much more after that. It was very wonderful to see the performers and how wonderfully they performed.”

Shen Yun will be performing in Stamford, Connecticut, from May 7  to May 10.
