Shen Yun Performing Arts received a warm welcome from audiences at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on May 6 and 7. The company's mission is to rekindle China’s rich heritage from before communism. Spartanburg Mayor Jerome Rice Jr. honored Shen Yun artists with a proclamation, naming May 6 as Shen Yun Performing Arts Day.

“I can see that this comes from the heart, to my heart. And that is very inspiring and touching to me,” said Buddy Burgess, a pastor. “This program is so well done. The choreography, the skill, the talents of the dancers, the performers, the backdrops, everything is the best I think I have ever seen. And I would encourage anyone, everyone, to come and see the show.”

“No one missed a beat. Everything was very professional and well-choreographed,” said Tom Solomon, a company vice president. “We would encourage everyone to come and see. This is very nice, and we'll be back.”

“The artistry is almost magical. It's very fascinating. It's very spellbinding, that you want to just continue to look, not look away,” said Anne Burgess, an ASL interpreter.

Shen Yun draws its inspiration from five millennia of traditional Chinese civilization. Ancient Chinese people believed their culture and values to be gifts from the divine. Audience members expressed appreciation for the values brought to life on stage.

“I think the message for me is that we have a loving God who loves all people,” said Buddy Burgess. “We need to help people realize that we have a God that loves us all and wants the best for us into Heaven, as we've seen in here.”

“I think kindness is what we need to focus on more. We need to focus on kindness and not focus on everything else that is trying to take away our kindness. And the more we can put our focus on kindness, the stronger it will be,” said Debi Beelow, a cosmology professor. “I think it brings us hope, hope that we can have a better, happy place. [Where] everybody has their freedoms and [is] able to express themselves.”

“I just appreciate what they've done, what they stand for, and what they're teaching us. It's amazing, just amazing,” said Eric Eckelman, a business owner.

Shen Yun has been touring the world since 2006, and brings an all-new program with original dance, music, costumes, and backdrops every single year.
