Principal of Catholic School Calls Shen Yun ‘Very Uplifting’

March 20, 2024

Shen Yun Performing Arts successfully concluded two shows at the Sydney Capitol Theatre in Australia on March 12 and 13. Through the medium of classical Chinese dance and music the dance company captivated theatergoers.

Peter Wade, the principal of Patrician Brothers’ College Fairfield, said, “The artistry, the grace, in which the music is played and the dancers perform. It’s just mesmerizing … I feel a journey, and I feel there is, there’s love. There’s passion. There’s evil and goodness. And sometimes goodness triumphing. So it’s very uplifting.”

Laura Viskovich is the Australian International Pageant winner of 2020 and also the national director of the pageant company. She said, “With the costuming and the choreography, every single moment, there was something new happening. And I loved how there were new chapters and new stories and new messages every so often. That just kept on changing. And I was just so enthralled with the whole show. I wasn’t one minute bored. It was amazing.”

Terry Allen, the minister of religion at the Sandy Beach Baptist Church, said, “I thought the orchestra was outstanding. I would recommend it just on that basis, I would come and hear them play a concert just on their own. So we were really impressed with the venue, the dancing, the technical part of the technical skill that we showed here tonight, and the audio—it all came together beautifully.”

Danielle Kedward-Lipovic, deputy principal at Camden High School, said, “I felt the kindness, I felt the compassion, I felt the culture, I felt the spirituality. I feel better internally.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to rekindle 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture. Its values are deeply rooted in spirituality. Something the Chinese Communist Party sought to destroy after taking power in modern China.

“I just thought it was amazing, because I don’t really know the background of the dance. And so it was really nice to kind of connect with a lot of hundreds of years of history on stage. And then of course, the spiritual messages really resonated with me. … And so when you tap into your spirituality, then you have complete freedom in your life to live and create happiness and wellness for people around you as well. So stay true to your core values, and let your heart shine. And that’s sort of what I saw on the stage,” said Ms. Viskovich.

David Daly, the founder and director of Distinguished Talent, said, “Firstly, my heart is very full. It’s just fantastic. It’s the first time that I’ve been to such an event with ballet involved. I think for me, the key takeaway is just learning about Chinese culture and the people and the history and the values that they live by. And I guess that’s something I’ve never been exposed to. And then the entertainment and the performance itself was just mind-blowing. It was fantastic to watch.”

Shen Yun will next perform at His Majesty’s Theatre in Perth, Australia, from March 19 to 23.
