Audience members had high praise for Shen Yun Performing Arts’ performance at the Rosemont Theatre in Rosemont, Illinois, on April 25. The artists showcased traditional Chinese culture from before communism, and were warmly embraced by theatergoers.

“Inspirational, heartwarming. It was phenomenal,” said Brian Guiheen, an account manager. “I think it’s the storyline. It’s not just phenomenal dancers, but there’s a story behind it. And I think that makes it very intriguing.”

“We are both into music, and we felt like we were really being transported to a different world while we were watching the show. So very well done,” said Sandra Bonifacio, a business and life coach.

Kim Plencner, a company president and CEO, said, “I like the cinematography, where they’re on stage and they jump into the screen and fly away or do things.”

“The combination of the technology with the dancers is very remarkable and impressive. The use of color is also quite impactful to us as a listener and an observer to the event. And the music, it’s different. You build this emotional attachment to what you’re seeing and experiencing,” said Aaron Wetzel, a company vice president.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive China’s 5,000 years of civilization and values, a culture believed to be inspired by the Divine. The company showcases that message through traditional Chinese dance, music, and legends.

“It’s a very hopeful message, and I think part of it is we need to lead more into a spiritual life. Stop and think, reflect about the gifts that we as human beings can bring to the world. And sometimes we forget because we live in a very fast-paced world. And so this is like I feel a lot of spirituality in this show,” Ms. Bonifacio said.

Mike Hale, a senior product manager, said, “I think it was just a lot of hopefulness and kindness. And I think the stories kind of played out that the good people win. They’re the ones that come out better in the end.”

Aaron Wetzel said, “It told a story of hope. It told a story of a religion that you don’t associate necessarily with China today. And I think that’s what’s exciting about this experience is we who have heard a certain message about what China is, it’s very different.”

“Don’t hesitate. Don’t wait for your wife to tell you to get tickets. Just come. You’ll enjoy it. It’s phenomenal and it’s very moving,” Mr. Guiheen said.

Shen Yun will be performing at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey, from April 30 through May 4.
