Shen Yun Performing Arts finished its 3 days of performances at Winspear Opera House in Dallas over the weekend. Audience members shared their experiences with NTD.
“Oh, it was enchanting. It’s a message that we really need to hear more of,” said Lissa Grounsell, a retired audiologist. “And the beauty that they project is just wonderful.“
Clint Dozier, a business owner, said: “I love the show. It’s great. I love the acrobats. I love the color. I love the storytelling. I love the screen and how they interact with the screen. I think that’s pretty cool.“
Andy Dé, the chief marketing officer at MedeAnalytics, said: “just visually captivating and spectacular. It’s clearly one of the most spectacular shows we’ve seen.” He added “this would be what I’d expect to see in La Scala in Milan. We think this is one of the most spectacular shows we have seen.“
Shen Yun blends Classical Chinese dance performances, a live symphony orchestra, and a unique video backdrop. Mr. Dé said it was the best he has ever seen. “This notion of the performers, literally blending into and then flying away in the background, is some of the best CGI I’ve ever seen,” he said.
Ms. Grounsell also said: “The acting, the dancing, the movement, the sound, the orchestra, all beautifully coordinated with your backdrop, which is, of course, the wonderful videography, that’s magical. It lifts you from your earthly being to a more ethereal place.”
“The orchestra is fabulous. One of the things that I really enjoy is not just the wide array of instruments that the orchestra has, but how they’ve been able to incorporate it into the Chinese musical tradition,” said singer Rhina Restrepo. “And the timing between the dancers and the musicians, you can tell that a lot of work has been put into really getting not just the moves right, but also the energy and the synergy. And it really shows, and I’ve really been enjoying it so much.”
Shen Yun’s stated mission is to revive traditional Chinese culture, which has a history of over 5,000 years—deeply rooted in spirituality and faith.
Mary Ocampo, a chiropractor, said: “It’s important the message that they gave about spirituality, about respect, about faith, about family, about honor.” She added “we think it’s pretty. It’s wonderful.”
“I believe that we did come from heaven. We are all created in the image of God,” said Jenny Fox, a missionary. “And I thought they did a beautiful job of depicting that.“
Ms. Restrepo also said: “I’m loving the show. It is unlike anything I’ve seen before.” She also said that “one of the things that I’m really enjoying, it inspires me to do more research about Chinese culture, pre-communist days. I’m really enjoying the underlying spiritual message.”
Mr. Dé also said: “I invoke God whenever I’m in trouble because God is the only person that is always there for you and doesn’t judge you so having that being seen on stage was something I could intrinsically connect with. It resonated with me a lot.”
“It’s a wonderful atmosphere. It’s a wonderful view. It’s a wonderful depiction of life in general,” said Mr. Dozier. “So you yeah it’s very I love it so far I can’t wait for the second half.”
Ms. Restrepo said: “I’m being left with a spirit of inspiration and creativity and kind of introspection about my life.”
Ms. Ocampo highly recommended the show. “Absolutely. Absolutely. You should come to see it.”
Shen Yun returns to Dallas this Friday for another 4 performances.
